Description
The pearl was chosen for its shape rather than its lustre. Its lumps and hollows were read as rock and cave, and a tiny enamelled figure was pinned into the surface to complete the scene.
Twenty square green stones run through the frame, the suspension arms and the crown. They are foiled in closed settings, and their green is flat and even — a sixteenth-century effect, not a modern one.
Three grey drop pearls finish it: one under the bail, two on fluted gold caps at the lower corners. The whole pendant weighs 22 g and needs a chain of some substance; we sell it without one on purpose.
