Description
Each hoop is hollow, which is the only reason a piece this size can be worn from the ear at all. The surface is covered in domed granules with small twisted-wire rings soldered in the gaps between them.
They are penannular — a gap at the top rather than a hinge — and the two ends are finished with a collar of rope wire. The gap opens onto the lobe and springs closed again.
The gold is high carat and reads orange rather than yellow in daylight. It will mark, and the granulation will slowly polish itself smooth at whatever point rubs against the neck.
