Description
Not an intaglio and not a cameo — a small sculpture. The head, shoulders and drapery are carved fully in the round and the stone is only cut flat where it beds into the gold.
The green is dark and unevenly saturated, going almost black in the folds of the headdress and translucent at the shoulder. Natural emerald behaves like this at depth.
The hoop is broad, plain and swells towards the bezel, with an old split visible on the inner face. It is offered as an antiquity, unrestored.
