Description
The crescent is built in registers — a fringe of turquoise droplets round the outer edge, then rosettes, then a band of tall blue and red cells, then more rosettes, each row divided by a line of beaded wire.
Inlay is set into gold cloisons rather than painted on. Several cells are empty. We have left them so, because refilling them would mean matching new stone to ancient and the join always shows.
Two capped finials carry the ornament on a braided gold hoop, which closes with a hook dropped into an eye at the top. It hangs as a collar; it was almost certainly made as one.
