Description
Cast from an early seventeenth-century devotional pendant held in our archive, and finished by hand exactly as the original was: red enamel laid into the pointed rays, white blossoms into the pierced inner band, black into the ground between them.
Inside the oval sit the small emblems — ladder, column, scourge, crowned heart — each enamelled separately and pinned into place. The IHS monogram at the centre stands proud of its own little sunburst.
The enamel is opaque and vitreous, so it takes a knock as a chip rather than a scratch. Wear it on a cord or a heavy link chain; a fine chain looks underfed against it.
