Description
The scarab turns. It is drilled through and pinned between two collars, so the engraved side can be worn face up for showing or face down for sealing.
What holds it is a single length of gold wire wound tightly along its own length, which gives the hoop a ribbed surface and a surprising amount of spring. At each end the wire finishes in a small cast palmette.
The intaglio shows two figures, cut deep enough to still take a clean impression in wax. We have taken one; it comes with the ring.
